Recommendations

Recommendations

To fully enjoy your trip to the 7-Colored Mountain with Top Inka Travel, we recommend you bring:

  • Comfortable and sturdy trekking shoes.
  • Layered clothing: thermal wear, a windbreaker, and gloves (intense cold in the early morning and strong heat at midday).
  • Sunglasses, a hat or cap, and high-protection sunscreen.
  • Water and energy snacks (fruits, chocolate, or cereal bars).
  • A valid ID or passport.
  • Extra cash (for tips, artisan purchases, or optional horses).
  • A camera or phone with enough memory to capture real photos of Vinicunca.

If you prefer, you can hire optional horses during the ascent (they don’t go all the way to the summit, but they reduce part of the effort). Carrying only a small bag will help you walk more comfortably.

The 7-Colored Mountain (Vinicunca) is located about 100 km southeast of Cusco, in the sacred surroundings of the Apu Ausangate, one of the most revered mountains in the Andes. Its altitude reaches 5,036 meters (16,522 ft) above sea level, so it is important to be acclimated in Cusco for at least one day prior. The weather can change rapidly: cold in the early morning, intense sun at midday, and wind in the afternoon.

To get to Cusco, most travelers take flights from Lima to the Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport (CUZ). From there, we coordinate your transfer and the tour departure, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

Regarding health, we recommend staying well-hydrated, bringing altitude sickness pills (soroche), and resting before the tour. We always carry oxygen, thermal blankets, and a basic first-aid kit: your safety is our top priority.
