Day 01: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa

We will begin with a pick-up from your hotel at 4:30 a.m. for a transfer to the town of Mollepata, arriving around 8:30 a.m. Here, we will stop for breakfast and be introduced to the full team of porters and cooks who will accompany us on the trek, followed by a briefing from our guide.

We will then hike for approximately 3 hours, appreciating the great diversity of local flora and fauna, before arriving at Cruzpata for a short rest. Afterwards, we will continue to Soraypampa (our first campsite) to enjoy a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, we will ascend for about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the Humantay Lagoon (13,845 ft), where we will witness the beautiful glacier and turquoise waters. After this visit, we will descend back to Soraypampa for dinner and rest under the spectacular starry sky of the Andean highlands.

Day 02: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Chaullay

Very early, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast before beginning our hike across the Salkantaypampa plains. We will cross the Salkantay Pass at 15,255 ft, surrounded by the majestic Andes mountain range and the sacred Inca mountain, Apu Salkantay. You may even witness impressive avalanches in the distance. We will have free time to enjoy the views and take photos of this grand landscape before beginning our descent to our lunch stop (location chosen based on our pace).

After lunch, we will continue our journey to the village of Chaullay. This tropical zone is rich with local biodiversity. Here, we will set up camp for the night.

Day 03: Chaullay – Playa Sahuayaco – Santa Teresa

After another early breakfast, we will walk along a narrow trail on the mountainside, discovering various types of orchids, plant species, cornfields, and fruit plantations. We will also have the chance to pass by an exquisite waterfall along the way.

After hiking for about 5 hours, we will arrive at Playa Sahuayaco. From here, we will take a 45-minute car ride to the town of Santa Teresa. Upon arrival, we will set up camp and you will have the opportunity to visit the relaxing Cocalmayo Hot Springs. In the evening, we will have dinner and rest at the campsite.

Day 04: Santa Teresa – Llactapata – Hydroelectric Plant – Aguas Calientes

After breakfast, we will begin a 4-hour hike to the restored Llactapata ruins (9,380 ft), which offer a unique direct view of both Machu Picchu and Mount Salkantay.

After exploring the ruins, we will begin a 4-hour descent to the Aobamba River, passing through lush bamboo forests, orchards, and coffee plantations excellent for bird watching. We will then arrive at the Hydroelectric Plant for lunch.

In the mid-afternoon, we will begin the final 2-hour walk along the train tracks from the Hydroelectric Plant to the town of Aguas Calientes. The evening is free for you to explore the town and optionally visit its hot springs. We will spend the night in a comfortable hotel.

Day 05: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

After an early breakfast, we will take the bus up to the Machu Picchu Citadel for a guided tour lasting approximately 2 hours. You will explore the “Lost City of the Incas,” visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the sacred Intiwatana (Sun Stone), the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, and various cemeteries.

After the tour, you will have free time to explore further (or optionally hike to the Sun Gate). To conclude the 5-Day Salkantay Trek, we will descend to Aguas Calientes to take the train to Ollantaytambo. From there, a private van will transfer us back to the city of Cusco, marking the end of this incredible adventure.
