  • Original ID or Passport (mandatory for the train and entrance to Machu Picchu).
  • Comfortable trekking shoes for light walks in Machu Picchu and Cusco.
  • Sunglasses, hat or cap, and sunscreen (the Andean sun is strong).
  • Mosquito repellent for Aguas Calientes.
  • Layered clothing: t-shirts and a light jacket for the day, a warm jacket for cold nights.
  • Reusable water bottle and snacks (energy bars or dried fruit).
  • Camera or charged cell phone for photos at Sacsayhuamán and Machu Picchu.
  • Rain poncho (especially December-March).

Dress in layers, as Cusco and Machu Picchu have cool mornings (5-10°C / 41-50°F) and warm days (15-20°C / 59-68°F). Charge your phone beforehand, as power outlets are scarce in Aguas Calientes. Bring Peruvian Soles in cash for tips or small purchases.
