FAQ
What is the starting point and what time does the tour begin?
The tour to the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve begins early in the morning from the city of Arequipa. Pick-up is provided from your hotel or from a meeting point close to the historic center, between 6:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., approximately. During the day, you will visit different points of interest within the reserve, and the return to the city is scheduled for around 3:00 p.m.
What is the maximum altitude reached and is there a risk of altitude sickness (soroche) in the reserve?
The reserve is located at an altitude ranging between 3,500 and 4,300 meters above sea level, so some people may experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness, such as fatigue or headache. We recommend acclimatizing in Arequipa for at least one day before the tour, drinking plenty of water, avoiding heavy meals, and, if you wish, drinking coca tea, a traditional infusion that helps prevent soroche.
What kind of wildlife and ecosystems are visited in the reserve?
The Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve is a natural paradise that is home to a great variety of high-Andean wildlife. During the tour, you will be able to observe vicuñas, alpacas, llamas, Andean foxes, vizcachas, and, with a bit of luck, flamingos in the lagoons. The landscape is unique: you will see snow-capped volcanoes like Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu, as well as extensive wetlands and lagoons surrounded by salt. It’s a perfect experience for photography and nature lovers.
What type of transportation is used and how accessible is the route?
The tour is conducted in a modern and comfortable tourist bus, ideal for road trips. The journey from Arequipa to the reserve lasts approximately 2 hours, traveling on paved roads and well-maintained gravel sections. There are several stops to enjoy the landscape and take photographs.
What is the group size and in which languages is the tour offered?
Top Inka Travel works with small groups to guarantee a personalized experience and better interaction with the guide. The tour is conducted with professional bilingual guides, and upon advanced request, it can also be offered in Portuguese, subject to availability.
Is the tour suitable for families or elderly people?
Yes. This tour is ideal for families, couples, and older travelers, as it does not require long walks or intense physical effort. The visits are done with short stops to observe the wildlife and take photographs. We only advise caution regarding the altitude, especially for young children or people with cardiac or respiratory problems.
What is the best time of year to visit the reserve?
The best time to take the tour is during the dry season (from April to October), when the days are sunny and the landscapes are clearer for taking photographs. During the rainy season (November to March), the roads may be damp, but the landscape becomes greener and the water bodies brighter, offering another perspective that is equally beautiful.
How can I book the tour and what is the cancellation policy?
You can easily book through the Top Inka Travel website or by contacting them via WhatsApp or email. We recommend making a reservation at least 48 hours in advance to guarantee availability.
In case of cancellation, you can reschedule free of charge with prior notice (according to the agency’s current policies), or request a partial refund, depending on the notice given and the service conditions.
