Royalty Machu Picchu Circuit 3

Circuit 3, or the Royalty Circuit, focuses on lower sectors and spaces associated with high-status architecture. It connects with Waynapicchu, the Great Cave and Huchuypicchu, as well as ceremonial sectors such as the Temple of the Condor.

Route 3-A: Waynapicchu Mountain

What you will see: Ascent to Waynapicchu, sacred mountain and astronomical viewpoint with views toward snow-capped peaks and the main apus of Cusco.

Important note: The Ministry lists an approximate route of 2.4 km with a certain degree of difficulty. Limited spaces.

Route 3-B: Designed Route

What you will see: Storehouses, agricultural terraces, ceremonial enclosures, fine royal Inca architecture and the Temple of the Condor.

Important note: This is the base option in Circuit 3 if you do not want to climb a long mountain route.

Route 3-C: Great Cave

What you will see: Trail connected to Waynapicchu toward the Great Cave, with a carved lithic element shaped like a ceremonial seat or throne.

Important note: Demanding route of approximately 3 km. Available in high season.

Route 3-D: Huchuypicchu

What you will see: Access to Huchuypicchu, part of Waynapicchu mountain, with an elevated viewpoint and another perspective of the Inca city.

Important note: Short walk to a viewpoint almost 100 meters high. Available in high season.

Breaking the rules may cause immediate expulsion without refund.

  • Maximum backpack size: 40x35x20 cm.
  • No food, alcoholic drinks or illegal substances.
  • No tripods, drones, extensions, umbrellas or regular walking sticks.
  • No heels or hard-soled shoes.
  • Do not touch, climb on or lean against walls and structures.
  • Respect the circuit and route printed on your ticket.

Best for

  • Travelers who want to climb Huayna Picchu.
  • Visitors interested in ceremonial architecture and lower sectors.
  • Travelers looking for more adventurous routes such as the Great Cave or Huchuypicchu.

Not the best option if

  • You want the most complete route for a first visit.
  • You do not want elevation changes or demanding walks.
  • Your priority is the classic upper viewpoints.

Booking and visiting tips

  • Huayna Picchu sells out quickly: book well in advance.
  • Do not climb Waynapicchu if you have strong vertigo or limited fitness.
  • For a less demanding experience within Circuit 3, check Route 3-B.

You must book Route 3-A: Waynapicchu Mountain, within Circuit 3.

Is Huchuypicchu easier than Waynapicchu?

Yes, it is usually shorter. Even so, it has elevation gain and specific spaces in high season.
