Machu Picchu Panoramic Circuit 1

Circuit 1, or the Panoramic Circuit, is designed to appreciate Machu Picchu from higher sectors. It prioritizes views of the cultural landscape, sacred mountains, terraces and viewpoints. It is an excellent option if your main goal is the classic photo and a broad visual reading of the sanctuary.

Route 1-A: Machu Picchu Mountain

What you will see: Access toward Machu Picchu Mountain, high viewpoints and wide views of the citadel, the Vilcanota valley and the apus surrounding the sanctuary.

Important note: This is the most demanding route in Circuit 1. Book it if you have good fitness and enough time.

Route 1-B: Upper Terrace

What you will see: Upper terraces, panoramic views of the Inca city, sacred mountains, Vilcanota valley and agricultural terrace system.

Important note: A good option for the postcard photo without a long mountain hike.

Route 1-C: Intipunku Gate

What you will see: Trail toward Intipunku, the traditional Inca Trail approach, enclosures, control platform and sacred spaces such as Tambo and Pachamama.

Important note: The Ministry lists an approximate length of 1.7 km. Available in high season.

Route 1-D: Inca Bridge

What you will see: Trail toward the Inca Bridge, Vilcanota valley, cloud-forest landscape and geological formations of the sacred mountains.

Important note: Approximate route of 1.3 km with lower physical effort. Available in high season.

These rules apply inside the Machu Picchu citadel, regardless of the circuit you choose.

Breaking the rules may cause immediate expulsion without refund.

  • Maximum backpack size: 40x35x20 cm.
  • No food, alcoholic drinks or illegal substances.
  • No tripods, drones, extensions, umbrellas or regular walking sticks.
  • No heels or hard-soled shoes.
  • Do not touch, climb on or lean against walls and structures.
  • Respect the circuit and route printed on your ticket.

Best for

  • Travelers looking for viewpoints and photography.
  • Visitors who already know the citadel and want a visual experience.
  • Travelers interested in routes such as Machu Picchu Mountain, Intipunku or the Inca Bridge.

Not the best option if

  • You want to visit most of the internal temples and plazas.
  • You are not in good physical condition and choose the Machu Picchu Mountain route.
  • You are looking for Huayna Picchu or the royal Inca sectors.

  • If you only want the classic photo, Route 1-B is usually the most direct option.
  • For Machu Picchu Mountain, book early and avoid carrying unnecessary weight.
  • Intipunku and the Inca Bridge depend on season and official availability.
